Greenspring is a beautiful 58-acre continuing care retirement community located in the heart of Fairfax County in Springfield, Virginia. Greenspring in Springfield is looking for a Certified Medical Assistant for our Employee Health and Well-Being Center (Occupational Health Clinic).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.  They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

  • Maintain schedules for employee visits.
  • Maintain current and accurate information in employee medical records. 
  • Performs front desk receptionist responsibilities to include data entry, assisting customers as they enter Employee Health, filing and retrieving medical charts, and answering phones.
  • Ensures the accuracy of registration, insurance verification and coding and charge entry into the electronic health record.
  • Assists with completion of workers’ compensation and OSHA reports are completed as delegated by the supervising NP.
  • Maintain necessary medical and office supplies in both clinical and front desk areas according to standard inventory lists. Orders for any additional supplies that are not part of the standard inventory list must be first approved by the clinic provider.
  • Prepares employee for examination by the healthcare provider to include the following:  recording vital signs including weight and BMI and preparing patient (e.g., assisting with placing on a gown, or exposing affected area of body for examination).
  • Assists employees with any necessary paperwork and on-line work such as their health risk assessments.
  • Performs blood draws, point-of-care testing including testing for infectious diseases (streptococcus, influenza, SARS-COV-2), vaccinations and EKGs under the direction of the supervising clinician.
  • Prepares reports for the Asst Dir, Operations, EHWC Medical Director, and Regional NP as requested regarding monthly utilization, time in clinic and satisfaction summaries, as requested.
  • Ensures lab compliance and with all required quality assurance measures by recording all required data in lab compliance binder including but not limited to:  daily temperature log for refrigerators, documentation of all point of care and send out labs performed for each date, performance and documentation of lab controls for all point of care tests.  The lab compliance binder is reviewed daily to ensure all necessary data has been recorded. 
  • Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in community, department or unit patient safety initiatives.
  • Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety. Reports adverse events and near misses to supervising NP or EHMG Practice Administrator and the EHWC Medical Director. 
  • Regularly reviews and follows all applicable Erickson Senior Living policies and SOPs with particular attention to the EHWC MA Manual. 
  • Complies with policies, procedure, and standards consistently in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communication with other team members.
  • Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge.
  • Performs other duties as required. Provides peer support to others EHWC Medical Assistants as needed by phone or email to assist with the onboarding, training, and continuing education of EHWC team medical assistants. 

Compensation: Commensurate with experience starting at $19.00 an hour

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Knowledge of HIPAA.
  • Demonstrated skill in venipuncture/finger-sticks and injections.
  • Demonstrated competency in intramuscular and subcutaneous injections
  • Demonstrated competency in placement of TB skin tests
  • Knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.
  • Knowledge of blood and body fluid precautions.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook and basic Excel) and keyboarding.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Current CPR Certification (BLS) is required
  • Active Certification in Medical Assisting is required (RMA, CCMA, NRCMA)
